GENERAL
The IPWFI Ltd has been trading since 1991, offering both Deposit
Protection and Insurance Backed Guarantees to the Home Improvement
Industry. With a membership of over 1900 Double Glazing companies
comprising of small local companies to some of the largest in the UK
with a combined turnover in excess of 300 million.
As a trade organisation we are able to offer our members a wide range of
products and knowledge connected with the window industry as well as
providing a help line for the consumer both prior to and after the
installation has been carried out.
MEMBERSHIP
All companies applying to become a member of IPWFI are put through a
vetting procedure which includes obtaining references from suppliers and
past customers as well as the financial stability of the company and its
owners/directors. Thereafter, ongoing checks are carried out through our
guarantee certificate which the consumer signs to confirm that each
installation has been carried out to a satisfactory standard.
BUILDING REGULATIONS
Due to a change in the building regulations which affects windows doors
and some conservatories, a certificate of compliance has to be issued on
completion of the installation. This can be done either by the local
building regulators, where prior approval has to be sought or FENSA
which was set up to enable companies to self certificate. As part of the
rules of membership to FENSA, companies have to be able to show
membership of an organisation such as IPWFI and offer an insurance
backed guarantee to you the consumer.
THE GUARANTEE
The guarantee, which is underwritten by the General Insurance Protection
Company Ltd (GPI) that we offer to our members is for both 5 or 10 years
and provides cover for up to the contract value of the installation for
repairs or replacements in the event of the installing company going out
of business through Bankruptcy, Liquidation or Retirement. The guarantee
also covers Windows, Doors, Conservatories in either, UPVc, Aluminium or
Hard Wood as well as soffits and fascias. Our normal guarantee covers
10% and for 25% deposit protection, we provide a Gold guarantee. We also
provide a conservatory guarantee which covers the whole of the
installation.
Upon completion of the installation one of our certificates will be
issued to you the consumer who will sign to say that they are totally
satisfied with the home improvement, have paid the company the full
contract value and then forward the certificate back to IPWFI so that it
can be entered onto the scheme.
WHY DOES THE CONSUMER NEED A GUARANTEE
The installing company have to provide their own guarantee so hopefully,
you will never need to use an insurance backed guarantee and your new
home improvement will enhance your property and give you years of
enjoyment. However, what if the company is unable to honour the
guarantee that they provided due to having ceased trading yet you
experience a problem within the 5 or 10 year period. With an insurance
backed guarantee you simply contact IPWFI and any problems will be dealt
with both speedily and with the minimum amount of fuss.
THE NEED OF AN INSURANCE BACKED GUARANTEE
Hopefully, you will never need to use an insurance backed guarantee and
the installation of your new home improvement will enhance your property
and give you many years of enjoyment. But what if the company you choose
for your home improvement does suffer from the recession, and does what
many companies are doing in these hard times and closes down? An
alarming amount of consumers have to find the cost of the repairs
themselves. With an insurance backed guarantee if the company you chose
for your home improvement had ceased trading, you simply contact the
Incorporation and any problems will be rectified without any fuss to you
or the consumer.
INSURANCE
Upon completion of your installation or home improvement and when full
payment has been made, we the installing company Will notify IPWFI and who
will forward a certificate of insurance to YOU without Delay.
